DBQ The Civil Rights Movement

The Civil Rights movement was a major turning point in the history of the United States.  Many African Americans lost their lives trying to fight for their rights to be accepted among other races but primarily White America. Society was corrupted and the government had little control on racists causing riots and strikes on segregation acts. Many civil rights movement natives used different tactics to get rid of segregation in the U.S along with several presidents, one of them being Abraham Lincoln abolishing slavery.
Civil Rights Activist leader Martin Luther King believed in non- violent behavior to acquire his goal for justice. He was imprisoned in 1963 in the jail of Birmingham Alabama, when King wrote his famous eloquent letter stating his purpose and fighting for laws that are JUST and UNJUST(Document 4). In august 1963, months after his imprisonment in Alabama; Dr. King then made his famous “I have a dream” speech in Washington D.C by Lincoln’s memorial being the 100th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation (Document 7).
There were many things that helped mark a point in history with African Americans being granted their social freedom among everyone. Cases like Brown v. Board of Education helped Africans Americans move in slowly into public schools instead of being segregated. Segregation in public schools was set unconstitutional because in education, there is no such thing as “Separate but Equal “ (Document 2).

Learning Style Inventory for Students

My learning style is an Extroverted Self – Expressive Learner. Based on the results, I was amazed as I went over the description as to who I was and how I feel, just by answering some questions. To be Extroverted is to be good with people, self expressive, draw energy from the outside world and be able to “take a walk in another person’s shoes”. I agree with the Learning Style Inventory because it gave me examples of things that I usually do but don’t catch myself doing them. Also the results showed my weaknesses and what my strengths were as a person. Some of the recommendations offered to me were; Practice giving myself some solitary time so I can pull things together, when I get a new idea write it down so I won’t forget, and don’t worry about solving everybody’s  problems because I’m not responsible for everything. This information is helpful for students because it shows you who you are without you really noticing, a way in which you see yourself in a second persons view or perspective.

12 Angry Jurors

Walking into the court room, I lost count on how many times I have been here I can almost call it home. I come across 10 Men who are all here for one purpose. I mind my own business getting ready to start our discussion, hoping for this case to be solved. We call upon a vote to see where everyone’s opinion is favored. #1: guilty, #2: guilty, #3: guilty, #4: guilty all the way up to #7 everyone was guilty. Juror # 8 says not guilty, everyone in the room shouts in shock and astonishment. As his claim being established I was next after him and didn’t know whether to agree with him or agree with the whole room. I went with my heart and agreed with juror #8 because there wasn’t enough evidence to sentence the young man to death. Well everyone else voted guilty after me, making me and juror #8 the only defenders. As we discussed the case in abroad everyone was trying to change our opinion stating cheap evidence from the scene and bringing up peoples perspectives from the crime. Some of the evidence did make me want to change my mind but deep down I knew that we were right as to the young man not being guilty. The opposing knuckleheads in the room did not want to give up on the case even after juror #8 did a demonstration of what could have happened in the crime scene. Slowly the votes started to change; jurors were getting what I call a change of mind. As time came clashing down the rain started to pour and night began. All the jurors except for juror # 2 agreed with each other on the young man not being guilty, it took some time for him to be convinced just because he was using a life experience with something similar to the crime. He then gave up, admitting that he was convinced. I was glad that we could come up with a definite answer after that brilliant gentle man, juror #8 got to the bottom of everything of course with a little of my help. When everything was done and settled, outside I shake #8’s hand thanking him for the opportunity to have him at my side during the discussion. This changes my outlook from now on to never agree with the majority of a crowd just because you may think their right, always follow what your heart says and defend that.
